Natural resources are depleted due to linear development models

Since the development of the Industrial Revolution, the linear economic model of "extracting raw materials, manufacturing goods, and discarding after use" has consumed a large amount of the earth's natural resources. As a result, a sustainable future has become a challenge that everyone needs to face. Countries, including Taiwan, have announced their goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. However, there is still a gap between policy planning and practical implementation in daily life.

Not just an exhibition

The exhibition "We Transforming" follows a timeline of "linear past", "changing present" and "viewer-determined future", inviting over 20 teams to share case studies in seven areas including food, sustainable value, new business models, textiles, architecture, transportation, and sustainable living transitions. The exhibition combines knowledge of zero-carbon emissions to encourage thinking among visitors, designers, and businesses, and to see more possibilities for sustainability. In addition, four circular elements were used in the exhibition including cloth made from marine debris, recycled plasticwood, modular exhibition stands, and light as service, making the exhibition itself the best practice of circular economy.

Encourage participation from multiple parties

Collective transformation requires the participation of diverse roles from government, businesses, and individuals. On the path towards sustainability, every person is interconnected as "we." This exhibition focuses on SDG Goal 12, "Responsible Consumption and Production," and showcases examples of the circular economy. It guides viewers to see how familiar everyday objects are gradually transforming and ultimately encourages them to make their own choices. The 2022 Taiwan Design Expo had a total of 6 million visitors, and this exhibition included a guided tour activity called "Imagine the Circular Future: A Youth-led Circular Economy Class." During the exhibition, there were a total of 20 tours for youth and 5 tours for the general public, with a total of over 800 participants.
